Travel
Fly into Cairns (CNS), then it’s about an hour up the Captain Cook Highway — one of the prettiest drives in the country, rainforest on one side, reef on the other.
A few places we love
Seven options, from the reception venue itself to houses you can share. April is peak dry season, so book earlier than feels necessary.
The reception venue — beachfront, saltwater lagoons, and no drive home. Book here if you want the easiest night of it.
Top of Macrossan Street, a minute from the sand. Balcony apartments, big lagoon pool, everything walkable.
Roomy self-contained apartments in big gardens, with a swim-up bar and a shuttle into town.
Big pool, its own restaurant, and enough going on that you never have to leave. Easy with a group.
Roomy apartment-style rooms beside the golf course, with kitchens for the mornings you can't face going out.
Swim-out lagoon apartments and a proper day spa down at the far end of Four Mile Beach.
Plenty of houses and apartments in Port Douglas, and often better value if a few of you share one.
Things to do in Port Douglas
Most guests are making a week of it. Here’s what we’d do with the days either side.
Day boats leave from the marina most mornings. Snorkel or dive — both are extraordinary.
The oldest rainforest on earth meeting the reef. Go with a guide if you can.
Four kilometres of empty sand. Walk the length of it before breakfast.
Forty minutes south on the highway. A boat cruise through the croc lagoon, plus koalas and cassowaries.
Twenty minutes inland. Cold, clear swimming holes and an Indigenous-led walk.
In town, and the easiest win with kids — koalas, wallabies, and breakfast in the middle of the bird aviary.
Calmer and shallower than the outer reef, with a glass-bottom boat for anyone not keen to get in.
Hire bikes in town and ride the flat path beside Four Mile Beach. Ice cream at the far end is compulsory.
Cocktail
Cocktail, with a tropical licence. Linen suits are very much encouraged — it will be warm, and you’ll be glad of it. Cocktail dresses or long dresses both work.
Gifts
We really don’t expect gifts — travelling all the way to Port Douglas is more than enough. If you would like to mark the day with something, there will be a wishing well at the reception.
